my respect for Jack (or lack there of)

I just started to re-watch LOST from the beginning and I realized how much I used to respect Jack until even season six. Jack used to be my favorite character because from the first episode he put the safety and the happiness of the many before his, in the pilot episode he was running around saving people with a big gash in his side. But now he is doing things for himself which was first evident when he refused to help Ben, to this episode where he admits that the reason he is trying to reset the crash because of his failed relationship with Kate! I guess I can only hope the old Jack comes back in this final season!
